about

I wrote this short song in about 10 min, after I received a text from someone I used to date who ghosted me. I knew he wasnt checking in on me because he cared about me, so when he said “I just care about your music” I lost it. I told him he didn’t care about my music or my heart. I got so mad about it that when I sat down with my guitar, Dime a Dozen came out like a song in a musical. Direct, conversational, and dramatic.

When I started playing the song out, I watched as women would viscerally react to some of the lyrics as I was singing it. In particular, the line “you just thought I’d make a good wife/maybe I’d become your mother.” It was empowering to feel like I wrote something that women could relate to.

Dime a dozen is not really a song about the one person, but more so a song about all the male musicians I’ve interacted with throughout my career. It’s hard he believed as a woman in a male dominated industry, and at a certain point I feel fed up. Dime a Dozen is a song about a female musician who has had enough of the boys club. I hope people of all kinds relate to its message.

lyrics

You don’t care about my music
You don’t care about my heart
You don’t wanna see the truth in it
When I tear you apart

You never had to prove it
Always had my full attention
You don’t care about my music
And darling, I should mention

You don’t know my favorite artist
Or my favorite color
You just thought I’d make a good wife
Maybe I’d become your mother

Well it seems that my dreams
Are more important than a lover
Who doesn’t care about my music
Or my favorite color

So consider this a goodbye
I know you wanna get away
You’re so intimidated by a woman who can really play
Why did I watch you for hours flexin’ on guitar
When you're just a dime a dozen
And I’m becoming a star
